Luncheon 4-7-23 - Michael Koory

Topic: Re-Energize Your Sales with the Hero’s Journey

Are you ready to transform your sales process and achieve greater success? Michael Koory will help us explore the power of the Hero’s Journey and how it can be applied to sales.

The Hero’s Journey is a powerful framework that has been used for centuries to tell captivating stories and inspire people to overcome obstacles and achieve their dreams. But did you know that it can also be used to enhance the sales process?

At its core, the Hero’s Journey is about transformation. It’s about taking the ordinary and making it extraordinary. It’s about finding the courage to step outside of our comfort zones and explore the unknown. And that’s exactly what sales is all about – taking a prospect from their current state to a better, transformed state.

But the sales process is not an easy journey. It requires a certain mindset – one of empathy, curiosity, and a willingness to listen. It requires us to understand the prospect’s needs and desires, and to provide them with the guidance and support they need to make a decision.

That’s where the guide comes in. In the sales process, the guide is the salesperson. They provide wisdom, guidance, and support, helping the prospect to navigate the challenges that lie ahead. They help the prospect to see their potential and the benefits of the product or service they are considering.

In our seminar, we will explore the Hero’s Journey in the context of sales. We will examine the different stages of the journey, from the initial call to the final sale, and the post-sale follow-up. We will discuss the mindset that is required to be an effective salesperson, and the role that the guide plays in helping prospects to make a decision.

So if you’re ready to transform your sales process and achieve greater success, join us for our upcoming seminar. We guarantee that you will come away with a new perspective on sales, and the tools you need to be an effective guide on your prospect’s Hero’s Journey.

Luncheon 10-6-23 - Dr. Sascha Gerhards

Topic: International Business Culture & Etiquette (w/ special focus on Germany)

In his presentation, Dr. Gerhards will focus on opportunities and pitfalls when doing business with European companies with a special focus on Germany, his native country. The goal is to achieve an awareness of how business culture and etiquette between Europe and the United States differ enough to present a roadblock in certain situations. Dr. Gerhards will cover a variety of topics, ranging from everyday practices, hiring procedures and retention, to dos and don’ts and some commonplace observations. While he will not be able to cover the topic holistically, participants should leave with an understanding where to start when it comes to improving business practices in international trade.

Dr. Sascha Andreas Gerhards was born and raised in Cologne, the German Midwest so to speak. He received his B.A. in English, Social Sciences and Education from the University of Cologne, and came to the United States as an exchange student – originally for just one year. Dr. Gerhards earned his M.A. at the University of Rochester, NY and his Ph.D. at the University of California, Davis. For almost ten years, he taught German and German Cultural Studies as a professor at prestigious institutions like Miami University and Wittenberg University. Throughout his career as a college professor, he accepted consulting appointments from internationally operating clients such as Procter & Gamble and ADIDAS. In 2022, Dr. Gerhards decided to seek new challenges, and started his Cross-Cultural Consulting Firm GCS – Gerhards Consulting Services, LLC. GCS offers services in three categories: 1) Training & Courses, 2) Research, Writing & Editing, and 3) Individual & Industry Services. Dr. Gerhards holds both German and American citizenship, and he routinely and systematically oscillates between European and American cultures.

Luncheon 11-3-23 - Charles Cohon and Dan Beederman

Topic: Rep Succession Planning – Why It is so Important For Reps and Their Manufacturers?

What Reps need to know about Succession Planning:
• Should I recruit and hire my successor or merge with another rep firm?
• How do I set a valuation for my rep firm?
• How do I structure the sale or acquisition?
• What if you are not yet ready to sell or bring on new owners?
What Manufacturers who sell through reps need to know about their Rep’s Succession Plans:
• Do my Reps have a Succession Plan to let their firms continue to serve my needs when the current owner retires?
• Am I at risk of abruptly needing to recruit, interview, evaluate and train a replacement rep firm?
• How do I tell my reps who don’t have Succession Plans that our relationship may be at risk if they don’t have long-term plans to protect my company’s sales in their territories?

Charles Cohon is CEO and President of the Manufacturers’ Agents National Association (MANA). He has been an invited speaker at Harvard Business School on salesforce outsourcing, https://youtu.be/YjVwKA3n1xw, and is a frequent speaker at industry trade events and conferences. Cohon earned an MBA with honors and concentrations in strategic management and entrepreneurship from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and was the founder and owner of a very successful Illinois manufacturers’ representative firm for nearly 30 years before joining MANA.

Daniel E. Beederman is MANA’s legal counsel. He is a partner in Schoenberg Finkel Beederman Bell Glazer LLC, a full-service business law firm in Chicago. Beederman and his firm also serve as legal counsel to the Electronic Representatives Association (ERA), Association of Independent Manufacturers’/Representatives, Inc. (AIM/R), and other associations whose members are independent sales representatives and the companies that use them. For over 35 years, Beederman has counseled independent sales representatives on matters unique to their profession, including commission-collection disputes and litigation, as well as reviewing and revising sales representative agreements, and succession planning.
