Luncheon – February 9, 2018 - John Gumm

Meteorologist John Gumm of WKRC-TV will be our guest speaker.

Join us February 9 luncheon to hear John Gumm, Local 12 Meteorologist, at WKRC-TV. John will be sharing with us his career and how he got to be where he is today.  He will also include some speaking points about staying cool under pressure, knowing and speaking to your audience, and thinking outside the box.

With over twenty years of forecasting experience, John can be seen Monday through Friday on Cincinnati’s top-rated afternoon and evening newscasts (5 p.m., 6 p.m., 10 p.m. and 11 p.m.). A Cincinnati native, John returned home to work for WKRC-TV in October of 2005.

Our discussion on March 9 will be led by Steve McLemore who is the Engagement Director of the Goering Center for Family and Private Business. He will discuss the 10 best practices that are very consistent among successful family and private businesses and their relevance to your business.

The Goering Center is the largest university-based family business resource center in North America with more than twice the number of member companies than the second largest.  Its mission is to nurture and educate family and private businesses to drive a vibrant economy in the greater Cincinnati region.

Topic: How To Value and Sell a Rep Firm
Presenter: Charles Cohon, CEO of MANA

More and more manufacturers are basing rep choices not just on projected sales performance, but also on their comfort level with rep firms’ long-term plans to maintain continuity when the primary owner retires. In this session, Charley will discuss how retiring owners can value and sell their firms, and what prospective buyers will look for in a succession and buyout plan.

Charles Cohon, CPMR, is CEO and president of MANA. In 2016 Cohon earned the Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation after completing American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) coursework and testing. Cohon also earned an MBA with honors and with concentrations in strategic management and entrepreneurship from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and was founder and owner of a very successful Illinois manufacturers’ representative firm for nearly 30 years before joining MANA.

He has a BS degree from the University of Cincinnati, graduate of the GE Financial Management Program, Thunderbird International business, and trained in Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing.

Hal Demmerle – For more than 40 years, Hal has worked to provide the best health insurance solutions to business owners in Ohio. Specializing in employee benefits, he brings the highest degree of experience to his clients by listening to their needs and applying his strong work ethic to implement plans that meet their every concern. Join us on MONDAY, December 17, to hear Jeff Berding, President and General Manager of the local soccer franchise, FC Cincinnati, tell the story of the rise of FC Cincinnati and update on the upcoming season and plans for 2019.

Jeff is a member of the ownership group led by Carl Lindner III and his family. FC Cincinnati is one of 33 teams in the United Soccer League and is the newest franchise to be awarded an MLS bid. FC Cincinnati will join MLS in the 2019 season and continue to play its home games at Nippert Stadium on the University of Cincinnati’s campus as the new stadium is constructed in the West End.

Prior to his August 2015 founding of FC Cincinnati, Jeff served for more than 19 years as an executive with the Cincinnati Bengals where he led the Sales and Public Affairs efforts for the NFL team.

Bringing professional soccer to Cincinnati is consistent with Jeff’s track record of working to make his hometown a better place to live, work and raise a family.
